Missing teen's
family clings to hope after flyer campaign
Tom Zytaruk
Brittany Stalman's family and friends
bombarded North Delta with flyers on Sunday,
hoping to generate some clues as to the
missing teen's whereabouts.
The 17-year-old North Deltan has been missing
since a week ago Monday, when she was last seen
walking away from the family's house
in the 7400-block of Crawford Drive.
Brittany took no money with her and went out
with just the clothes she was wearing and a
pink walkman.
More than 100 people helped with the leaflet
campaign. Neighbours, friends and family
"all out" blanketed the North Delta area with
flyers on Sunday, said Brittany's mother Sandra.
"We probably put out 10,000 flyers yesterday,
" she said Monday. "We were handing them out
at Safeway stores, putting them in people's
grocery bags, putting them in people's mailboxes_"
But at press time Brittany's loved ones
still hadn't heard from her. "The news is
the same, unfortunately," Sandra said.
Rumours that Brittany had run off with her
boyfriend are bogus, Sandra told the Now.
"Her boyfriend is extremely distraught over
all of this.
"If she's out there, we would just like her
to call someone, contact anyone, it doesn't
matter," the worried mom pleads. "Whatever
the problem is, it can be dealt with.
We just want her back, we want to hear from her.
If she's able to, just phone one of her friends - anybody - just to let us know that she's out there."
Brittany has a history of depression but had
never run away before. She's a North Delta
secondary student and until recently worked
at Gourmet Pita in Nordel. She was last seen
wearing a black zip-up bomber jacket,
grey sweatpants and blue and white Puma runners.
She's five feet six inches tall,
110 pounds
and has long brown hair
and brown eyes.
She used to wear braces but they were recently
removed.
